Upcoming Paste?

The guys over at the Milk Carton are tooting their own horn, or the horns of their readers. All I care about was the heads up over the latest Paste Magazine and Wild Sweet Orange. Sounds like a good upcoming article.- JW

Paste Magazine Tries To Catch Up With Us Today, 10:21 AM Old

So I’m sure most (some) of you have read through the indie publication PASTE magazine, which covers everything from music, movies, to books and video games (one of the main reasons I read is they are the only people to actually review video games in a substantive fashion). They also garnered some press (for the press) by creating the “Pay What You Want” method for a year-long subscription.

Anyway, their most recent issue (Issue 46, September 08), which will most likely be up on their website http://www.pastemagazine.com soon, but I wanted to break this to all of you and let you realize how completely cool you guys are for hanging out here at TMC. Because, Apparently, Paste thinks we’re pretty good music spotters.

Their recent issue is called “The Best of what’s Next- 26 Artists You Can’t Miss”— yawn. Every mag does this, but Paste’s list is actually pretty interesting. First on the list, and co-cover owner is none other than our own DannyP’s rightly obsession worthy Bon Iver. Included is a pretty illuminating article, and some healthy comparisons to Iron & Wine.

But the fun doesn’t end there! Turn the page a couple of times, and you might find some more TMC music darlings; the indie-drum of The Dodo’s, the new school backpacker Wale, Charlie’s country daddies The Everybodyfields, or the Lollapalooza standouts Wild Sweet Orange.

Turn the page AGAIn and it gets worse! The last page of recs arguably robs two of TMC’s most beloved secrets, now cursed to become Paste it-boys. Andy Hull’s single outing Right Away, Great Captain gets some legitimate comparison to Page France and the Mountain Goats, as well as our own very special Joshua James, whose review here can be read here, who gets a boost from comparisons to Ray LaMontagne. Also keep checking back here to see some pretty cool stuff from Josh and his friend Lex Land.

Anyway, this may seem like an endorsement for Paste. But really, it’s for you guys (and a little of us) over here at TMC. You guys really make this site what it is and bring some pretty sick music to our attention (some music that, apparently, is ready to break out). So if you don’t feel like spending money on a pretty pretentious (if well written) mag, just stay over here and read us! We’re way cooler

One Response to “Upcoming Paste?”

  1. Great set at Lolla! Thanks for the mention via the forum post on our site from Tyler. He’s one of the reviewers and proud of our accomplishments, but the tone came off a little cockier than the rest of us feel. As you’d see in the following posts on the thread, the rest of the staff agreed that PASTE is always on top of their game and it’s sheer coincidence that we love the same artists and have a knack for discovering some of the best at the same time. We’re generally pretty humble and outrageously grateful for our opportunities and anyone who cares to read us. Anyway, looking forward to hearing more from you guys and congrats for the coverage in PASTE! Thanks again. :)
