Birmingham loves its native sons and indie rockers Wild Sweet Orange.
Not even microphone amd guitar problems, as well as a drum-heavy sound mix, could generate so much as a murmur of discontent from the crowd at the Boost Mobile Discovery Stage.
Problems notwithstanding, The Orange plowed through a thoroughly bad day (lead singer Preston Lovinggood had a wreck on the way to the
performance) like troupers. Original songs like the wailing “House of Regret” and “Wrestling with God,” as well as an excellent cover of The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love,” showed why the band has a large and growing following here and has earned performances on “The Late Show with David Letterman.”
And by the time they had worked through four or five songs, the sound gremlins had been banished, if you don’t count the irritating DJ at the nearby 95.7 Jamz set-up.
A little gold from Aretha, and Be Careful from the Whale Ep. I got a kick out of the Aretha’s vid, cause it sounds like “eddiemcgregory” or the person was recording went for the big note around the 4:05 mark. (I feel ya. Its hard not to sing while your filmin)
